What the manual says
Brother SE700 Operation Manual (US English), checked October 20, 2026.
- 1
Embroidery setup
Use a 75/11 home sewing machine needle for embroidery. This is the manual’s direct embroidery recommendation; it is not a universal rule for every embroidery machine.
- 2
Light and medium fabrics
Lightweight fabrics such as lawn, georgette and chiffon use 65/9–75/11. Medium fabrics such as broadcloth, linen and quilting cotton use 75/11–90/14.
- 3
Heavy fabric
For denim, canvas and #30 thread, the chart names 100/16. This is a chart range, not permission to force a needle through a machine or fabric that resists it.
- 4
Stretch fabric
Jersey, tricot and fleece use a ball-point needle in the 75/11–90/14 range. Keep the point style separate from the size number.
- 5
Insert and change safely
Place the flat side toward the rear, push the needle up to the stopper and tighten the clamp screw. Replace a bent or damaged needle before troubleshooting skipped stitches.
- 6
Twin needle boundary
The manual names a 2/11 twin needle and says to enable Twin Needle mode. Never use the needle threader with the twin needle; keep the stitch width and foot settings within the manual’s limits.
