  1. 1

    Needle system

HAx1 / System 705 (p. 9). Buy this system; a familiar size number alone does not make a needle fit.

    Size by fabric

Lightweight (thin georgette, organdy, voile, taffeta, silk) → 70/10-75/11, 70/10-80/12; Medium weight (gingham, pique, linen, cotton, satin, thin corduroy, velvet) → 80/12-90/14; Heavyweight (gabardine, tweed, denim, corduroy) → 90/14-100/16; Stretch (double knit, tricot, spandex, jersey) → 80/12-90/14, needle for knit and synthetic fabric.

  3. 3

    Fitting the needle

Insert new needle into needle clamp with the flat side to the back, push it up as far as it will go; tighten needle clamp screw. (p. 9).

  4. 4

    Twin needle

2.0/90, 3.0/90, 4.0/90, 5.0/90 (Needle Type column); foot All Purpose foot. Straight stitch only; stitch width dial must be set to 3.5 (centre needle position). Needle threader cannot be used with twin needle (p. 31-32).

  5. 5

    Also in the manual
