Needle system
SINGER 2020 (red shank) for wovens, 2045 (yellow shank) for knits (p. 26-27). Buy this system; a familiar size number alone does not make a needle fit.

Size by fabric
Lightweight (batiste, chiffon, crepe) → 2020, 11/80 orange band; Medium weight (corduroy, flannel, gabardine, linen, muslin) → 2020, 14/90 blue band; Medium-heavy (bonded wovens, canvas, coating, denim, duck, sailcloth) → 2020, 16/100 purple band; 18/110 yellow band; Knits (bonded knits, double knit, jersey, tricot) → 2045, 11/80, 14/90, 16/100 (p. 26-27).

Fitting the needle
Insert the new needle into the needle clamp with the flat side toward the back. (p. 26).

Twin needle
SINGER Brand 3mm (Style 2025) Twin Needle (optional); stitch width at 3.5 or less. Needle threader cannot be used to thread the twin needle; use second spool pin (p. 41, 72).
